“Intention is the starting point of every dream. It is the creative power that fulfills all our needs, whether for money, relationships, spiritual awakening, or love.” ~ Deepak Chopra
The simple actions of firing up my computer, creating a video, writing a blog post, writing an e-Book, optimizing a pay-per-click campaign, running some social promotions – it all starts with an intention and a desire.
If you’ve never seen Apple’s “Think Different” Ad created by Chiat/Day & Steve Jobs, watch it carefully. It shows in order of appearance: Albert Einstein, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, Jr., Richard Branson, John Lennon (with Yoko Ono), Buckminster Fuller, Thomas Edison, Muhammad Ali, Ted Turner, Maria Callas, Mahatma Gandhi, Amelia Earhart, Alfred Hitchcock, Martha Graham, Jim Henson (with Kermit the Frog),Frank Lloyd Wright, and Pablo Picasso. The commercial ends with an image of a girl opening her closed eyes, as if making a wish: “Think Different”.
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify and vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as crazy, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
Individuals can and do make a difference
My modern-day heroes in the field of medicine are the rebels against the status quo: Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Terri Wahl, Dr. Sara Stein, and others. They practice what is known as “Functional Medicine” – the type of medicine that targets the root of disease, and provides real cures –rather than treatments for symptoms. Dr. Terry Wahls had 2nd degree progressive multiple sclerosis. She was confined to a wheelchair when she discovered that the food she was eating was making her sick. So she changed her diet, and was back riding her bike in a year!
We’re standing on the shoulders of giants
Without Watson & Crick’s discovery of DNA, we’d have no genome mapping and no awareness that the substance we were calling Junk DNA just 12 months ago is actually something that you can control and reprogram through healthy diet and exercise. Now we know you CAN reprogram your health!
It all starts with intention
It’s my intention to create a successful business, to do a better job with public relations, to be a better husband, to be a better parent, to be a better friend, to be kinder to strangers, to work on my yoga practice, and to do my part to help make the world a better place.
Why do I do this? Because I love my work. I love my wife. I love my kids. I’m thankful for my friends and I want more of them. Yoga is a great sport because it’s part exercise (which you need every day) and part spiritual — the more mindful we are the better. Finally I know that even though I am small, I am powerful. And I can and will make a difference.
Intention has long been observed by the sages of India as the final shaper of our destiny. In fact, intention is well-defined in the Upanishads, the classic Vedic text.
“You are what your deepest desire is. As your desire, so is your intention. As your intention is, so is your will. As your will is, so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny.”
I am thankful for The Power of Intention. What are your some of your intentions? Where would you like to go with your life?
